Cristina Fernández celebrates the ambitious judicial reform in Mexico

Former Argentine President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner welcomed the “ambitious” judicial reform promoted by Morena and its allies in Congress, which she considered “frankly revolutionary,” particularly for the proposal to elect judges, magistrates and ministers by popular vote.

Participating today in the closing of a course organized by the National Institute for Political Training of Morena, Fernández spoke about the need to achieve the “utopia of justice” in Latin America, in a scenario where – she said – laws have been used on many occasions as a tool of political harassment against leaders like herself.

In this context, he said, it is crucial to “reform justice, which is totally co-opted by economic power factors, absolutely pressured by the hegemonic media. […] That is why I welcome and celebrate this judicial reform that Morena is undertaking.”

At the Cultural Center of Contemporary Mexico, the former Argentine president emphasized that “this ambitious reform of Morena” seeks the election by popular vote of all judges, ministers and magistrates of the Judicial Branch, including those of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, which makes it a “frankly revolutionary” project.

During the closing of the course “Political and electoral reality in Latin America,” Fernández “fully” supported the position of Mexico, Brazil and Colombia on the post-electoral conflict in Venezuela, and asked not to forget that it is closely related to the desire to control the oil reserves of that nation.

He also called on the authorities of the National Electoral Council, “not only for the Venezuelan people, for the opposition, but for democracy and for the legacy of Hugo Chavez himself, to publish the minutes” of the elections to clearly know who was the winner of the votes of last July 28.
