Cristiano Ronaldo has sent a message to Portuguese fans following the elimination of his selection at Euro 2020.
Cristiano Ronaldo has vowed that Portugal will “come back stronger” after their failure in Belgium’s defense of their European title.
Portugal were knocked out of Euro 2020 on Sunday as a strike from Thorgan Hazard gave the Belgians a 1-0 victory in the round of 16 in Sevilla.
The Seleção have won only one of their four Euro 2020 matches, which is their smallest number in a single European Championship tournament since their first appearance in 1984 (also a win).
Not to miss
Portugal’s 23 shots against Belgium are the highest tally for a side at Euro 2020 without scoring, with Ronaldo responsible for four of those attempts.
Despite his side’s disappointing exit in the knockout first round, the Juventus star is proud of his teammates and predicts a bright future for the winners of Euro 2016 and the 2019 Nations League.
“We didn’t get the result we wanted and we left the competition sooner than we wanted,” he posted on his official Instagram page. “But we are proud of our course. We have given everything to renew the title of European Champions and this group has proven that it can still give a lot of joy to the Portuguese.”
