Cristiano Ronaldo’s Alleged Sentencing in Iran: Embassy Denies Claims and Highlights Warm Reception

Cristiano Ronaldo emerged as a trend this Friday after, supposedly, being sentenced in Iran to 99 lashes for showing affection with a single woman.

It all goes back to the end of last month, when the Portuguese star traveled to Iranian territory to play in an Asian Champions League match between Al-Nassr and Persepolis of Tehran.

The news escalated to the Spanish media, which claimed that several Iranian lawyers denounced Cristiano before the justice of that country, accusing him of having committed adultery.

Given all the commotion caused by the alleged conviction against the Al-Nassr forward, the Iranian Embassy in Spain spoke out on behalf of the Government and issued an official statement to nip all the controversy in the bud.

“We strongly deny the issuance of any judicial ruling against any international athlete in Iran,” begins the publication issued through X (former Twitter) this Friday morning.

The embassy decided to raise its voice due to the impact that news, according to them, without foundation, had. “It is a matter of concern that the publication of such unfounded news could overshadow crimes against humanity and war crimes against the oppressed Palestinian nation.”

“It should be noted that Cristiano Ronaldo traveled to Iran on September 18 and 19 to play an official soccer match and was very well received by the people and the authorities,” the statement states.

In the end, they highlight that the Portuguese’s gesture was well received by the Iranians and was never understood as an offense to their religion and beliefs. “His sincere and humane meeting with Fatemeh Hamami was also praised and admired, both by the people and by the country’s sports authorities,” he concludes.

Emphasizing the affection shown by Iran to Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent visit, the embassy concluded its statement by adding a link to the words that the Portuguese dedicated on social networks after his 2-0 victory against Persepolis.

“It’s great to get the win today! A very special thank you to the fans and all the Iranian people who have made this visit so special for us. “What an incredibly warm welcome!” wrote CR7 one day after meeting the artist in the city of Tehran.

Cristiano can now breathe easy knowing that he will have no problems returning to Iran if the path to the Asian Champions League demands it. For now, Al-Nassr is the leader of its group with 6 points out of a possible 6, just over ten days before returning to the ring to face Al-Duhail of Qatar on the third date of the first phase.

On the way they still have another match against Persepolis, but it will be played at home at the King Fahd stadium in Riyadh, capital of Saudi Arabia.

The yellows’ next game will be until Saturday, October 21, hosting Damac in the Saudi capital.
