Cristiano Ronaldo was offered to Paris Saint-Germain but the French club rejected the possibility of his incorporation for financial and sporting reasons, reports Le Parisien on Tuesday.
It was Jorge Mendes, the famous agent of the Portuguese star, who sounded PSG a few days ago before his protégé’s desire to leave Manchester United, says the newspaper, with very good sources in the team from the French capital. Mendes knows very well the president of PSG, Nasser al Khelaifi, as well as the club’s new sports adviser, also Portuguese Luis Campos.
It has been the agent who has discussed with PSG the arrival in Paris of midfielder Vitinha, from Porto, while there are advanced negotiations for another of his clients, Renato Sanches (Lille), to also join the Qatari-owned club. However, PSG rejected the hypothesis because Ronaldo would mean building the team around him, and the entity has already decided that the axis of its reconstruction will be the recently renewed Kylian Mbappé (23 years old compared to 37 for the Portuguese), indicates Le Parisien.
Added to this is the financial issue, since the Portuguese attacker receives a token of about 30 million euros and PSG already has its finances scrutinized with a magnifying glass after several complaints of not respecting UEFA’s financial “fair play”.
And it is that the Parisian club must face the millionaire renewal of Mbappé, in addition to the high chips of other stars such as Messi or Neymar, but also those of other players from an oversized and very well-paid squad that they cannot lighten. As if that were not enough, Al Khelaifi told the press, during the presentation of the new coach Christopher Galtier, that the club is looking for more sporting commitment and less “bling bling”, and according to Le Parisien Cristiano Ronaldo does not fit this new idea.
