Cristiano Ronaldo sets a date for his retirement from football

Cristiano Ronaldo was present at the annual The Best Awards gala, where Polish striker Robert Lewandski won the award for best player last season. There, the former Real Madrid forward also received an award, where, in his welcome speech, he dropped, in front of the eyes of Georgina and his eldest son, the possible date of his retirement from professional football.

The Portuguese killer was awarded a special prize for becoming the player with the most goals in the history of the national teams, in this case with Portugal. Immediately afterwards, the player began his speech of thanks as usual. “It’s a dream, I thank my teammates from the Portuguese national team, who have accompanied me for 20 years. It is a pride. Thanks to my family, to my wife, to my children, soon I will be a father again,” he said.

After the corresponding thanks, in the speech he decided to talk a little about his ambition and vision about football, dropping the date of his future hanging from his boots. “I still have a passion for football and scoring goals. I still enjoy it. I’ll be 37 soon, but I feel good and motivated. Sometimes people ask me when am I going to retire, and I tell him that I hope to play 4 or 5 more years. It’s a mental thing.”

This speech has come at a delicate moment, sportingly speaking, for the Portuguese at his current club, Manchester United, with whom he is not getting the best results he would like, leaving open the possibility of leaving the team in the summer, in search of another ambitious adventure, considering that the countdown to his retirement has already begun. I have returned to Manchester because I love this club. I haven’t done it for the money or anything like that. I love this club and I think we have the potential to win great things, but we must find the best way to achieve those results,” Ronaldo told DAZN.

The Portuguese differs a lot from the current mentality of the club that is far from the reality of the Manchester United of which he was once a part, not wanting to aspire to be among the top three in the English table, but rather, seek as many titles as possible: “Manchester United must win the league, come second or third. I don’t conceive of another position for Manchester United. In my case, I don’t accept that our mentality is less than finishing in the top three in the Premier League.”
