Cristiano Ronaldo | Ronaldo stunts can cost teams dearly

Several players have removed sponsorship products from the tables during the European Championships. Now UEFA is putting its foot down.

Cristiano Ronaldo attracted attention this week during a press conference before Portugal met Hungary. He chose to move the Coca Cola bottles that were on the table in front of him and instead encouraged people to drink water.

Shares of Coca Cola fell 1.6 percent and the value of the company went from $ 242 billion to $ 238 billion. It was probably not quite what the soda giant envisioned when they decided to sponsor the European Championships. Well, UEFA warns according to BBC about fines to the teams that move drinks from the tables during the press conference.

It is not only Ronaldo who has removed sponsorship agreements from the table. France’s Paul Pogba removed a Heineken bottle, but in a more discreet way.

UEFA has reminded the teams that sponsorship agreements are necessary for the delivery of the tournament and to ensure the further development of football in Europe, including for young people and women, the organizers say.

The director of EURO 2020, Martin Kallen, says that the players have been reminded of the contracts signed by the countries before the tournament. UEFA does not intend to fine the players directly.

– We never fine the players directly. This will go through the participating nation’s federation and then they will have to make an assessment of whether they want to take this further with the player, says Martin Kallen, director of EURO 2020.

Ronaldo follows a strict diet regime and has previously stated that he gets annoyed when his son drinks Coca Cola.

– Sometimes he drinks cola and eats potato chips. He knows it annoys me. We will see if my son becomes a great player, said the player during the Global Soccer Awards.

The star player himself eats six meals every day.

– I eat a high-protein diet with whole grains, fruits, vegetables and I avoid sugary foods, Ronaldo has previously stated according to Goal.com.
