RIYADH – Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo pledged to stay in Saudi Arabia next season as well.

After signing a contract with the Al Nassr club in January, there was speculation about how long Ronaldo would stay in the team, there was talk of a transfer to Newcastle United. The English club qualified for next year’s edition of the Champions League.

The 38-year-old player said in an official interview for the Saudi Pro League: “I’m happy here, I want to continue here. In my opinion, if they continue the work they want to do here for another five years, I think the Saudi league can be in the top five in the world.”

Ronaldo scored 14 goals in 16 league appearances for Al Nassr but failed to win the title. It was only enough for second place. “I expected us to win something this year, but we didn’t. But as for next season, I’m really positive and I believe that things will change and we’ll go in a better direction.” Ronaldo added.
