Cristiano Ronaldo was jeered by the crowd at the Saudi Super Cup. The Portuguese football star’s club, Al-Nassr, lost the duel against Al Hilal by a clear 1:4. Due to the large lead, the opposing fans stood up from their seats during the game and loudly chanted “Messi, Messi”.

Similar to Germany, the Super Cup in Saudi Arabia is held shortly before the start of the season. The champions and the cup winners face each other.

Ronaldo mocked with “Messi” chants

Ronaldo put his club in the lead just before half-time. In the second half, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic equalized before Aleksandar Mitrovic scored twice to decide the game. Malcom’s goal to make it 4-1 for Al Hilal made it clear. Afterwards, the Portuguese superstar had to listen to the jeers of the opposing fans.

The chants were apparently directed against Ronaldo. The 39-year-old is considered, along with Lionel Messi, to be one of the best footballers of his generation. Both have shaped international football for years and won numerous titles. Ronaldo has been awarded the Ballon d’Or five times, Messi eight times.

While the 37-year-old Argentine moved from Paris Saint-Germain to Inter Miami in Major League Soccer last year, the long-time Real Madrid star joined Al-Nassr a year and a half ago.
