Lisbon –
Lionel Messi touted as the incarnation Diego Maradona. But, according to this coach, Cristiano Ronaldo more worthy of being called that than Messi.
The world is now talking about Maradona after the Argentine football legend died suddenly last week of cardiac arrest. So naturally, many people are sad, including Messi.
Messi is often mentioned as Maradona’s incarnation because of his similar body posture and playing style. Moreover, the two players both rely on the left foot as their main weapon, and come from Argentina.
Messi even specifically paid tribute to Maradona last weekend, while celebrating the goal against Osasuna. He opened the Barcelona jersey and showed the jersey of Newell’s Old Boys number 10, the club Maradona had played for.
Unfortunately, Messi so far, he has not matched Maradona’s achievements at the national team level. When Maradona alone led Argentina to world champion in 1986, Messi even failed in the 2014 World Cup final and two consecutive Copa America finals.
Therefore, Jorge Jesus, the coach of Portuguese club Benfica, considered Messi not worthy of being called Maradona’s incarnation. Rival Lionel Messi, Ronaldo, it is even more appropriate because he has an extraordinarily high enthusiasm for playing, like Maradona.
“Between the two best players in the world today, Cristiano Ronaldo have little things that belong to Maradona, while Messi is not. He has no enthusiasm at all, “Jesus said as quoted by the Football Critic.
“Messi is indeed a great player. But we are talking about life and taste, how passionate he is for the match and football. I think Maradona outperforms all the players in that aspect,” he continued.
Even talking about trophies at the national team level, Messi indeed still lost to Ronaldo. Cristiano Ronaldo already have the European Cup and the UEFA Nations League with Portugal.
Do you agree with Jesus’ opinion?
