The five-time world footballer Cristiano Ronaldo receives the number 7 on his jersey again with the English record champions Manchester United. Ronaldo takes over the number from fellow striker Edinson Cavani, who changes to 21, the club said.
Manchester – Ronaldo moved from Juventus Turin to the Red Devils shortly before the end of the transfer window. The Portuguese had already worn the number 7 in his first time at United from 2003 to 2009. At that time, Ronaldo had scored a total of 118 goals in 292 games and won nine titles, including three times the Premier League and once the Champions League.
The jersey with the 7 has a big meaning at Old Trafford. Club greats such as George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona or David Beckham had also worn this shirt number. Ronaldo, who set the record of 111 international goals with two goals for Portugal in a 2-1 win against Ireland, could make his comeback for Manchester on 11 September against Newcastle United. dpa
