Now Ronaldo explains his obscene gesture – and it’s quite strange!
Al-Nassr star Cristiano Ronaldo (39) recently caused quite a stir with his cheering gesture, which definitely went below the belt. For this he has now been suspended for one game. This was announced by the Saudi Arabian Football Association.
The 2016 European champion had previously apparently made a statement to the responsible ethics and disciplinary committee. Saudi media reports this.

Ronaldo said of his gesture: “I respect all clubs… and the arm gesture expresses strength and victory and is in no way shameful or obscene. In Europe we are used to it.”
Is it really like that?
What exactly happened: In the 3-2 away win against Al-Shabab on Sunday, Ronaldo allowed himself to be provoked by the home fans. They loudly chanted the name of his arch-rival, world champion Lionel Messi (36) – and in doing so probably hit a sore spot for the Portuguese.
The Portuguese’s fuse was blown: Ronaldo stood up in front of the fans, knelt down, grabbed his crotch and repeatedly moved his hand back and forth at belt level.
That wasn’t well received in Saudi Arabia – and would probably have caused a stir in Europe too.

The consequence: The five-time winner of the Ballon d’Or has now been suspended for one game.
This is a major setback for Al-Nassr. Ronaldo has scored nine goals in the last eight league games alone and has scored a total of 22 goals this season – more than any other player.
In addition, the club is currently “only” in second place in the Saudi Pro League, seven points behind leaders Al-Hilal, the club of ex-Barcelona and Paris star Neymar (32). The next opponent for Ronaldo’s team is Al-Hazm on Thursday (6 p.m.).
