Rumors have been growing for several days that Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave his club Al-Nassr after just a few months.
In an interview with the Saudi League, however, the superstar now takes a clear stance: “I’m happy here. I want to and will continue here,” said the Portuguese. Despite losing the championship to Al-Ittihad this season, Ronaldo still has big plans for his new homeland.
Since his arrival, the world footballer has scored 14 goals in 16 games and caused a real football hype in the oil state. The ambitions of the league leadership are well known, in the summer other top stars like Karim Benzema, Luka Modric or Ronaldo’s long-time rival Lionel Messi should upgrade the competition.
Ronaldo trusts Saudi League big leaps
The 38-year-old sees the development of the Saudi League very positively: “The league is very good. But I believe that we still have many opportunities for growth. The league is competitive, we have very good teams and very good Arab players, but the infrastructure needs to be improved further.”
Afterwards, Ronaldo surprised with a daring statement: “In my opinion, if the efforts that have been made are carried out over the next five years, the Saudi League can become one of the top five leagues in the world.”
Further steps in this direction could be taken in the upcoming transfer window. Should players like Benzema or Messi actually follow the call of the money, the Saudi League would become even more attractive.
