The Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo was chosen by fans as Manchester United’s best player of the year, within a low season for his team, sixth in the Premier League.
In his first season after returning to the English club, Ronaldo once again won the Matt Busby trophy, which distinguishes the most outstanding footballer of the season, as he did on three occasions in the 2003/04, 2006/07 and 2007/ 08, in his first step through the Red Devils.
In this way, the striker joins the Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea as the only ones who have been named best player in four different seasons.
United fans from around the world were able to vote via the team’s website for their favorite players.
De Gea himself came second in the consultation, although a day earlier he won the vote for this recognition, which was made only among the players on the Red Devils squad.
At 37 years old, Ronaldo closed the campaign with a total of 24 goals in all competitions, of which 18 came in the Premier League, which left him third in the top scorers table.
However, his contribution did not allow United to finish higher in the table than sixth position, which will allow them to play in the Europa League next season, although until the last game that position was in danger.
