Portugal’s star player, Cristiano Ronaldo, who is celebrating 20 years since his debut with the national team, is on the list of 24 footballers called up by coach Roberto Martínez for the Euro 2024 qualifying matches against Slovakia and Luxembourg.
“A player with 200 caps is a unique case,” said the Spanish coach of the Seleçao during a press conference.
“I can tell you that I am delighted to have Cristiano Ronaldo in my team,” he added.
The 38-year-old player, who plays for Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, celebrated his 200th appearance with the Portuguese team last June, scoring Portugal’s winning goal against Iceland (1-0), which allowed Portugal continue to lead Group J qualifying for Euro-2024. Among the forwards is also the Atlético de Madrid player Joao Félix.
Portugal will face Slovakia on September 8 in Bratislava, and Luxembourg three days later at the Algarve stadium.
