Cristiano Ronaldo announces his retirement

The fact that he can still do it on European soil Cristiano Ronaldo proved on Friday night in Portugal‘s 5-1 win over Poland in the League of Nations. CR7 scored two goals himself – one of them with a beautiful overhead kick – and set up another. Things are also going well at his Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, Ronaldo has ten goals and three assists in 15 games.

Nevertheless, the clock is ticking slowly for the now 39-year-old. After the match against Poland, CR7 revealed on the microphones of the journalists present that his career was coming to an end.

“I plan to retire and it will happen in a year or two. I’m turning 40 soon. I want to enjoy this, as long as I feel motivated I’ll keep going. The day I don’t feel motivated anymore, I’ll retire,” he said.

Before then, Ronaldo would like to reach a previously unachieved milestone: 1,000 competitive goals. CR7 currently has 910 goals. The mile marker is unlikely to fall. However, Ronaldo is also calm about the schedule.

“To be honest, I’m not even thinking about the record of 1,000 goals in my career. Of course you always want to make history, but I’m not focused on that record – now.”
