Moments ago the news broke that Inter Miami would play a friendly match against Al Nassr. Football fans around the world were in seventh heaven as the emphatic showdown would have seen the last dance between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. But in a shocking turn of events, the cloud burst when the much-anticipated match was canceled after Miami denied any such arrangement.

Before that, the two legendary players met in a clash between PSG and Al Nassr. While another confrontation was expected, other things happened.

Earlier, the football community was greeted with the exciting news that Inter Miami and Al Nassr will participate in the Riyadh Season Cup. The match would have brought together Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo on the pitch as old rivals. Both would have relived their good old days. Unfortunately, this was not the case, as Inter Miami officially denied it.

This comes after the club’s communications department released an official statement regarding the news. They said: “Earlier today, an announcement was released stating that Inter Miami CF are expected to participate in the Riyadh Season Cup. This is incorrect. The release included statements attributed to team owner Jorge Mas. Mas has made no comments, public or private, regarding the pre-season tour.

While emphasizing their intention to become a global brand, they acknowledged that their 2024 pre-season schedule is still under construction. “We look forward to showcasing our players during Inter Miami CF’s first international tour which will be announced in the coming weeks,” the statement concluded.

So it’s clear that the potential clash between the legendary stars has been denied. Additionally, Al Nassr has yet to break his silence on the false rumors.

Although it is sad not to see the Messi-Ronaldo reunion, there is a chance for them to participate in another battle. Apparently, the two luminaries of the beautiful game will compete for the Globe Soccer Award. Both of their names are on the list of best men’s players for 2023. The two are joined by other European stars, including Kylian Mbappe, Harry Kane and Erling Haaland.

Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham and Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah are also on the impressive list of candidates. Currently, Karim Benzema is the nominee for the best men’s player. The prestigious award will be presented on January 19, 2024, during a glamorous event hosted at Atlantis, The Palm, Dubai.
