Jakarta –
Argentina defender Christian Romero turns out to be holding a slick statistic, which also proves Lionel Messi have a strong instinct about him.
Recently Romero helped the Tango team win Finalissima with a win over Italy. At Wembley, Argentina ruthlessly bulldozed Gli Azzurri with a landslide score of 3-0.
For the 24-year-old centre-back, this is the second trophy he has won in his last nine games with Argentina after winning the Copa America last season.
It’s even more extraordinary when you consider the fact that in Cristian Romero’s last nine appearances in charge of Argentina’s defence, his team have not conceded a single goal!
The score adds to the achievements of Cristian Romero with the Argentine national team after his debut in the senior squad last year. Of the 11 caps so far, the Tottenham Hotspur player has also set another record.
In his second appearance for the Argentine national team, against Colombia on June 8, Cristian Romero found the net after just 130 seconds. Not only did he score his first goal at senior level, he also broke Diego Maradona’s record for the fastest goal scored by a La Albiceste player in an official match.
The ability of Cristian Romero can actually be sniffed by Lionel Messi. Driven by that instinct, La Pulga asked Barcelona, before moving to Paris Saint-Germain, to recruit his compatriot.
In the process, Cristian Romero joined Tottenham Hotspur on loan from Atalanta in the summer of 2021. This summer the Lily Whites are expected to make his status permanent.
“The fact that Messi wants me in his team, and that he wants me to join Barcelona, is incredible,” Romero told Radio AM 550.
“The team that has been built at PSG is crazy. I’m a little saddened by how Leo’s story ends at Barcelona, I used to think he would be there forever.”
