Last January it was confirmed that Cristian Onion Rodríguez had decided to end his career as a professional soccer player at the age of 37, after defending the Plaza Colonia shirt in 2022, a team from his native department.
And precisely there he will play again, since this Wednesday he was confirmed through social networks as a new player for Club Atlético Reformers, of the Juan Lacaze League, the city where he is from.
Reformers is the second team with the most titles in the local league, with 16, four behind Independiente. The Dean, as is his nickname, comes from obtaining the 2021 and 2022 championships. He was the first champion in 1920 and won undefeated in 1988, 2008 and 2009. In addition, he was Colonia Departmental champion in 1989.
Professionally, Cebolla wore the Peñarol jerseys, in two stages, Plaza Colonia, Paris Saint-Germain from France, Benfica and Porto from Portugal, Atlético Madrid from Spain, Parma from Italy, Gremio from Brazil, and Independiente from Argentina.
His main achievements include the 2011 Copa América with the Uruguayan team, the UEFA Europa League with Porto, the European Super Cup with Atlético Madrid and three Uruguayan championships with Peñarol, as well as domestic leagues and cups in France, Portugal and Spain.
