In Lower Saxony, the number of corona infections is stagnating, in some cases they are even rising again. How does the state government react? The crisis team reported on the situation on Tuesday.
The head of the crisis team, Heiger Scholz, or his deputy Claudia Schröder will provide information on current figures and developments in the corona crisis. One of the causes of concern is the apparently more contagious coronavirus mutation B.1.1.7, which is spreading across the country. The surprising resignation of Health Minister Carola Reimann (SPD) should also be a topic at the state press conference – as well as the federal-state summit scheduled for Wednesday and the positions of Lower Saxony. NDR.de will broadcast live at this point on Tuesday from 1 p.m.
What will happen to the schools?
Recently, in addition to the unpleasant development in the number of infections, there has also been hardly any major progress in the vaccination campaign – it continues to jerk. Now teachers, educators and police officers are to be vaccinated earlier. In comparison to other federal states, Lower Saxony lags behind when it comes to corona vaccinations. Nevertheless, last week the state government announced plans on how easing could continue in schools and other areas. Education Minister Grant Hendrik Tonne (SPD) has rushed ahead with his plans to open schools and announced that Lower Saxony would “take a separate path” if necessary.

Calls for openings are getting louder
Despite the infection rate, a debate about easing public life has begun in Lower Saxony. The tourism industry in the holiday regions has already expressed wishes for openings during the Easter holidays and 17 mayors are demanding a new opening strategy from the state government.
