Washington DC –
The officials United States of America (The US) is increasingly frustrated with the military and leadership Israel for attacks targeting civilians in Gaza Strip. Washington’s concern over the large number of civilian casualties in the Gaza Strip has been clear in telephone conversations and meetings with Tel Aviv in the last 40 days.
As reported Al ArabiyaTuesday (21/11/2023), Israel launched relentless attacks, both by air, land and sea, against the Gaza Strip to avenge the deadly attack Hamas on October 7 last. Around 1,200 people, mostly civilians, were reported killed as a result of the Hamas attack.
The series of Israeli attacks, according to Gaza health authorities, have killed at least 13,300 people, including 5,600 children and 3,550 women. Around 31,000 other people were injured as a result of Israeli military attacks.
Israel’s continued bombardment of the Gaza Strip has forced hundreds of thousands of Palestinian civilians to flee their homes.
A number of sources familiar with discussions between US and Israeli officials refer to recent comments by the Minister of Foreign Affairs (Menlu) Antony Blinken as a sign that the President’s government Joe Biden no longer agree with the government of the Prime Minister (PM) Benjamin Netanyahu regarding operations in Gaza.
While speaking to journalists recently, Blinken stated that ‘more’ needs to be done to protect civilians in the Gaza Strip. Blinken also criticized Israel for ‘too many Palestinians’ being killed in the war that lasted weeks after the October 7 attack.
A US official, who asked not to be named, said that Blinken had conveyed his views ‘very clearly’ to Israel during two recent trips to Israel.
However, this is unlikely to significantly change Washington’s policy or support for Tel Aviv, as a number of members of the progressive Democratic Party have demanded in recent days.
