Representative Mark Daou wrote today, Tuesday, in a post on his account on the “X” platform: “The city of Choueifat and its people deserve much more than the clear, rude interventions that are affecting it, destroying its structure.”
The richest and largest municipalities contain Beirut Airport, 300 factories, hundreds of thousands of residents, the Costabrava landfill and others, which are controlled by a group of authoritarians.”
He added, “Unfortunately, vinegar worms on and in it. This coincides with the interests of de facto forces, including parties, gangs, drug dealers, and motor dealers.”
He continued, “The mayor’s resignation is a great danger to the city, because it is driven by a political goal of forces that are losing control and whose goal is to control the capabilities of a municipality that is intended to serve all people, especially its people who are deprived of water, electricity, and clinics. There is no acceptable hospital in Choueifat, nor a single university. It has become Sidon Road.” The old city, all the way to Khaldeh, is a complete chaos by granting municipal lands as consolation prizes to the followers.”
He added, “The municipalities of Aaramoun, Bchamoun, and Deir Qoubel have all been dissolved. The municipality of Choueifat must remain in place at all costs.”
He concluded: “But the most important thing is for the people of Choueifat to move and reclaim the municipality from the hands of the political authorities and bullying, so that the most important municipalities in the mountain can return to their role in serving society. We stand by the people of Choueifat and it is time for Choueifat to return to its free decisions with the legitimacy of its people’s trust, away from the political hegemony from which it has suffered for years.” .
