The team Israel has reached the largest hospital complex (RS) in Gaza Strip, with military tanks stationed in front of the hospital gate. This situation occurs when medical personnel struggle to save patients, including newborn babies, with inadequate medical facilities.
As reported Al ArabiyaTuesday (14/11/2023), Al-Shifa Hospital located in Gaza City became the main target in fighting between the Israeli military and the group Hamas to control the northern part of the Palestinian enclave.
Al-Shifa Hospital was forced to stop operations at the weekend, due to running out of fuel needed to keep generators functioning. At least 650 patients remain inside the hospital, desperately waiting to be evacuated to other medical facilities by the Red Cross or other neutral humanitarian agencies.
Israel insists that Al-Shifa Hospital is located above an underground tunnel that is the headquarters of Hamas commandos, which are accused of using patients as human shields. Hamas has strongly denied Israel’s accusations.
“The tanks are in front of the hospital. We are under a complete blockade. This is a completely civilian area. Only hospital facilities, hospital patients, doctors and other civilians live in the hospital. Someone has to stop this.” this,” said a surgeon at Al-Shifa Hospital, Dr Ahmed El Mokhallalati, when speaking by telephone.
“They bombed the (water) tanks, they bombed the water wells, and also bombed the oxygen pumps. They bombed everything in the hospital. So we are having a hard time surviving. We told everyone, the hospital is no longer a safe place to be “treating patients. We are endangering the patients by allowing them to remain here,” he said.
There has been no official response from the Israeli military regarding the report.
