CRIS against cancer delivers Research Programs to 17 scientists

..Writing.
The organization CRIS against cancer has delivered his CRIS Research Programs to 17 prestigious scientists to advance in the research of this disease. With innovative lines of research, these professionals will carry out their projects in 12 centers in seven cities, thanks to the 11 million euros contributed by this initiative.

Specifically, thanks to these programs progress will be made in cancer of the colon, prostate, lung, breast, ovary, acute myeloid leukemia, melanoma, follicular lymphoma and haematological tumors. These programs respond to different needs, being especially attractive for researchers due to their funding (up to €1,250,000) and duration (five years), which allows researchers to develop their projects in better conditions. The award ceremony was held Raquel YottiSecretary General for Research and the Dr. Mariano Barbacidone of the most relevant researchers in the scientific community.

Dr. Mariano Barbacid: “I congratulate CRIS against cancer for these five-year research programs that are at the level of European calls both in economic amount and in duration over time”

“Today is a very important day for the scientific community, as we bring together a large group of researchers who will change the current landscape of cancer treatment. I congratulate CRIS against cancer for these five-year programs that are at the level of European calls both in economic amount and in duration over time”, commented Dr. Barbacid.

For his part, the founder and president of Chris against cancerDiego Megía, pointed out that “When we created CRIS, we did so with the commitment to bring the best possible treatments to patients and to give them a second chance. Today we can say that this is a reality. We are helping to cure types of cancer that were incurable years ago. And patients who previously had no alternative or responded to conventional treatments have benefited from a new personalized therapy. We put a face and a name to these patients and we are not going to stop until 100% of the patients are cured. And for that we need the support of all of society to help these magnificent researchers to continue advancing”.

Diego Megía: “With these programs we want to highlight the figure of the researcher. If we have good scientists, but they don’t have the time or funding to do research, we’re not going to get rid of this disease.”

Since its inception 10 years ago, this organization has been committed to research to end the 40% of cancers that currently have no treatment. To this end, new projects and CRIS Units were opened in research centers and public hospitals so that advances reach patients as soon as possible and all of them benefit.

We have opened new and innovative projects in Spain, the United Kingdom and France, with multidisciplinary units that are at the international forefront; but with these programs we want to highlight the figure of the researcher. If we have good scientists, but they don’t have the time or the funding to do research, we’re not going to get rid of this disease.”, Megia points out.

Finally, research on these programs is conducted at the National Center for Cancer Research (CNIO); Hospital del Mar Medical Research; Institute for Biological Research (IRB); University of Navarra Clinic; Hospital Clinic; CIC Biogune; Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO); University Hospital October 12; Princess Hospital; Health Research Institute of Santiago de Compostela; Mediterranean Center for Molecular Medicine and Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center.
