Criminals are stealing cell phones to later usurp the identity of their victims and borrow money via WhatsApp to your contacts.
Through the Rotafono, victims of cell phone theft in the jurisdiction of Santa Anita they denounced this new type of crime.
Mr. Óscar Ilizarbe Salas, 49, said that last Wednesday his cell phone was stolen in the vicinity of Los Pinos Park, in Santa Anita.
In a matter of minutes, before I managed to block the stolen equipment, the criminals entered the application WhatsApp and they borrowed money from all their contacts, getting them to deposit up to two thousand soles.
“The criminals had used my WhatsApp posing as me, sending messages to all my contacts, asking for money as a loan. And many of my relatives fell and transferred money, “he said.
“I went to the Police Station Santa Anita and I agreed to the complaint, but until now I have no results, “he added.
Another case
The young Isabel Gonzáles, 26, was also a victim of the same type of crime. Criminals seized his cell phone last Saturday, March 20, when he was on a public transport bus a few blocks from the Municipality of Santa Anita.
As in the previous case, in a matter of minutes, the criminals entered your account WhatsApp and they borrowed money from their contacts.
“They provided information as if I were the person requesting the money, claiming different personal reasons of need, such as that I need urgent health reasons, that I will replace them in an hour or in the afternoon,” he commented.
“I feel indignant and affected, because this money that was transferred belongs to people who wanted to give me a form of support and were victims of this scam,” he added.
These people called on the National Police to attend to their cases, since since they have filed their complaints they have not seen any progress in the investigations, despite the fact that three bank accounts have already been detected to which the victims of the scam made the money transfers.
