The true facts of the shooting incident, involving the 20-year-old Siquella Liesdek in the eve of was killed on Sunday 16 May, is not yet known. Her 35-year-old partner Romano W. stated that he tried to snatch a handgun from her and that it accidentally fired. He has been detained pending the investigation, the Suriname Police Corps reports.
According to his statement, he was home alone with his wife. While he was doing laundry outside, he noticed that Siquella was walking out with his illegal firearm. He tried to take the gun from her, but it accidentally went off. The young woman sustained a gunshot injury to her left breast.
Romano took his wife Siquella, with whom he lived for about four to five years and has a child of five months old, directly to the Emergency Room (SEH) of the Academic Hospital Paramaribo. The victim died shortly after arriving at the A&E.
After passing on all the details of his wife to the A&E staff, it turned out that the man had left the hospital. After an investigation by the Munder and Latour police, Romano reported with the weapon to the Capital Offenses Department after two hours.
After consultation with the Surinamese Public Prosecution Service, the suspect was arrested by the police pending the investigation, while the lifeless body of Siquella was seized for autopsy. The illegal firearm has also been confiscated reports the police.
