No one was injured in the incident, says the Eastern Police District. The arrest took place just after 1 a.m. on Monday.
– In connection with the arrest, he threatened the police with what was probably a firearm. The police fired warning shots. No injuries, the operations center reports.
According to Romerikes Blad the police first received a report of a car theft at the short-term parking lot at Oslo Airport (OSL). A witness reportedly saw a man jump into a car and drive off. According to the police, near the airport the suspected perpetrator stole a new car, after which the police made contact with him and followed him for a short distance. Then both should have stopped, and there was a confrontation, writes the newspaper.
The weapon turned out to be a softgun.
– But it is completely impossible to see that it is not real from a distance, and at least not in the middle of the night, says operations manager Finn Håvard Aas.
The Special Unit for Police Affairs is routinely notified of the incident.
