Karlstadt / Würzburg (dpa / lby) – With a large number of police officers, investigators have re-examined the crime scene in Lower Franconia after an unsolved violent crime against a 13-year-old in 1993. The property of an Aussiedlerhof was digitally documented with “state-of-the-art technology” in order to check new investigation results, as the police and public prosecutor announced on Thursday. Shortly before Christmas 1993, the girl’s body was found in a manure pit on the farm.

In addition to the criminal police and the public prosecutor’s office, specialists from the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office and support staff from the supplementary operational service came to the crime scene in the Wiesenfeld district of Karlstadt (Main-Spessart district), which has just over 1,100 inhabitants. The investigations served to preserve evidence and were carried out in agreement with the owner of the property.

As early as mid-February, several police buses were on the road in districts of Karlstadt and Lohr am Main (both in the Main-Spessart district). Officials distributed flyers and pointed out a witness phone. The so-called cold case was reopened at the beginning of the year after, among other things, finer DNA analyzes had brought new information.

In January, a man from the Main-Spessart district was temporarily arrested on an urgent suspicion. The accused’s lawyer appealed against the detention. The man was released in April as the Chamber did not see sufficient grounds for suspicion of the murder. According to the public prosecutor, the investigation continues. A second man is also in the sights of the investigators.
