A man was shot and killed in central Oslo on Monday night. The suspected perpetrator has been arrested and charged with the murder.
The emergency services were notified of the incident in Tordenskiolds gate in central Oslo at 17.44 on Monday afternoon.
– We received a number of messages that a shot had been fired. We’re on the scene now and one person has been shot. The person appears seriously injured, said operations manager at the Oslo police district, Bjørn Gunnar Nysæter to Nettavisen at 18.00.
– A police unit was on the scene four minutes later and then finds a man outside a car and a man inside a car that has been shot, says task leader Erling Olstad.
At 20.30, the police informed about the latest news in the case. Then it became clear that the man who was shot is dead. Another man, who was arrested by the police on the spot, is charged with murder.
Head of intelligence and investigation Grete Lien Metlid informs that the accused and the deceased are adult Norwegian men, both of whom are linked to Oslo. The police chief also says that the relatives of the deceased have been notified.
– The person who is charged is known to the police from before, Metlid says.
She says that the police at the moment can not say anything about motive and reason.
– We also do not link this to anything ongoing, conflicts or something that should be known to the police, but as said; we do not yet know what happened, says the police chief.
The accused will be questioned on Monday night
– Have the accused been questioned?
– We will try to be questioned during the evening, so no, he has not been questioned yet, she says.
The man has been appointed lawyer Mette Yvonne Larsen as his defender.
– I have not been able to talk to my client yet, but I will talk to him later tonight. I have no further comment on the case at this time as this has recently happened, and there is a full investigation by the police, she says to NTB.
Relationship between the parties
According to the task leader, there is a connection between the man who was outside the car and he inside the car. The man who was outside the car has the status of a suspect, he says.
– The relationship between these two is still a bit unclear to us, but interrogations have been made on the spot and technical investigations will also be carried out further, Olstad says.
The operations manager states that the main focus on the site is to take care of the victim.
– A person who we believe is the perpetrator has been arrested. We have a number of police resources down there and we investigate broadly and talk to witnesses, Nysæter said.
The accused must be known to the police from before. He has been appointed Mette Yvonne Larsen as defender.
Witness: – The gun had clicked
A witness who accidentally saw the incident unfold says to Nettavisen that he perceived it as if the perpetrator’s pistol tickled after he had fired an unknown number of shots.
– I saw that a man was trying to get the gun in order. The gun had clicked, so he could not load the gun. He tried to hit it on the ground and hit a car, just to get the gun started, but he could not get the gun started. Then it took maybe a minute before he threw a gun into the car, the witness claims.
