Karlsruhe (dpa) – After a knife attack with a dead and a seriously injured person in Dresden in autumn, the federal prosecutor’s office charged a suspect who is said to have acted out of radical Islamist sentiments, according to dpa information. She accuses the man of murder, attempted murder and dangerous physical harm. A spokesman for the authority in Karlsruhe did not want to say anything on Thursday. The “Spiegel” had previously reported online about it. The Dresden Higher Regional Court decides whether and when the trial will take place.

The Syrian is accused of stabbing two tourists from North Rhine-Westphalia in Dresden’s old town on October 4th. A 55-year-old man from Krefeld died shortly afterwards in the hospital. A 53-year-old from Cologne survived seriously injured.

The perpetrator was initially able to escape undetected, the motive was unclear. But the knife was found at the scene. Then on October 20th the suspect was caught. The federal prosecutor’s office took over the investigation a day later when the evidence of an Islamist background increased.

The man had been known to the authorities as an Islamist for years. He has been tolerated in Germany since 2015 and was released from juvenile prison just a few days before the crime. “He wanted to wipe out the two crime victims as representatives of a liberal society that he had rejected as” unbelieving “,” said an earlier statement from the Federal Prosecutor’s Office.
