For Plato (The Republic), societies are like sick bodies, they are unbalanced, as they suffer the attack of various diseases. A good doctor is one who treats many diseases, including his own, therefore the most suitable activity to manage the kingdoms is that of the medical ruler.
When a patient suffers from a risky disease, such as cancer, doctors can choose from an arsenal of therapies or procedures. The truth is that when this illness is discovered, both the patient and the family go into shock and think the darkest scenarios, it is like announcing the death sentence and even the relatives begin to visit their family doctors to be diagnosed; Everyone gets scared, fear becomes flesh and doctors benefit from this hypochondria that has become a plague or obsessive pandemic.
The media and their journalists, embracing the experts, launch their tremendous rants, which benefits the ratings of the moment and the politicians who flourish and reap from such public calamities.
Evil exists, like cancer, but society has many ways to combat it. Nobody denies that we are in the presence of 2.3 crime, much of it imported from countries that are far ahead of us in experiences of systemic crises, with systemic poverty, with corruption of the elites, also systemic, and a crime forged from drug trafficking and of social abandonment, which deepened enough to breed these “crows” that dedicate themselves to eating the eyes of those same societies and that, in addition, become an export product to the “healthy” regions (Oasis) of the organism. as true metastases.
That is what we have in the reality of our Latin American region. It would be long to make a historical account of the causality of these evils, both in Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Mexico and the United States of America, until reaching our own country, which is now infected with gang violence of varying degrees. of organization and that frighten our population, given the wild and violent spectacles that are offered to us on public roads and that are reviewed to the point of paroxysm in the television media.
Undoubtedly our means of control and repression were not prepared for this criminal invasion. Chile was and continues to be a low crime society, therefore its police officers did not have the experience of this other form of social evil that was so challenging and heartless.
What do the experts and opinionologists propose?
As is normal, if you put the microphone at the disposal of the public, you will find all kinds of reactions: some will talk to you about God’s punishment, so you will say prayers, another will say that it is the bad race, some will propose the atomic bomb (someone He did it over there in Israel, thank God we don’t have that type of weapons, because there are so-and-so people who think like that, here there are plenty of them).
But if we leave the floor to the politicians, we will see that their proposals are also quite whimsical. Almost all of them are sensible, but with gradualness and progressiveness in the attributes of sanity.
Senator Moreira, post-Catholic version, surprises with his argument; He suggests that it is not very appropriate to declare a State of Exception, for anything, since that means leaving not only criminals, but the innocent, without rights.
Another, like Governor Orrego, proposes the State of Exception applicable to his Region (the man has his claims), and certainly to those that already suffer from such a state: Macro southern zone and northern zone of the country. Another, like Deputy Soto, points out that the State of Exception should be applied throughout the country, because if it is partial, criminals will migrate from one region to another.
Returning to Plato’s doctors……How does modern medicine deal with tumors that appear in various parts of the body?
First the biopsy, with that they are clear about what type of tumor it is, what its level of aggressiveness is and then a scan to know what its real diffusion is and if it is encapsulated or spreads relatively quickly.
Once you are clear about what illness you are facing and its degree of penetration, you must put together your treatment plan.
The logical thing is that initially the organization’s defenses are reinforced (strengthen police forces and defensive borders); then resort to the most modern and effective medications (what weapons are used in the frontal fight against specific tumor cells); third, try to focus the treatment (tumor by tumor); Fourth, discover where the original tumor is from which the rest derive (infiltrative intelligence).
If you have that plan, with exhaustive mapping, you will be able to operate from the most dangerous areas to the least aggressive, with a systematic approach that prevents the escape of more cells and weakening the aggressive and expansive capacity of evil.
In other times, when the available technologies were less subtle, all tumors were irradiated or removed in a non-preventive manner, which left the patient in a stone-cold state or spread metastases in radical surgeries, accelerating mortality.
Massive (and extremely toxic) chemotherapy was also applied indiscriminately, a process that killed many patients during treatment or left them so annihilated that they died shortly afterwards (similar to the “operation rake” proposal).
Medical science has learned to diagnose more accurately, to evaluate more carefully, to propose differentiated treatments, depending on the specific quality of the illness that afflicts us. Not like Netanyahu’s scorched earth therapy, in which the dirty water is thrown away along with the innocent baby.
As we noted, Plato advised in his “Republic” that kingdoms should be governed by doctors, because societies suffer from diseases of various types and that the methodology of doctors is the most appropriate to treat the ills of societies.
Our politicians who propose a national or local State of Exception are equivalent to those doctors who continue applying massive chemotherapy as soon as a tumor appears; Those who apply to do so in the Metropolitan Region, at least apply the radical therapy but selectively, that is, they pay the benefit of targeting (for now). Finally, there are those who present the modern therapy of using infiltrative intelligence, to dismantle the tumor in turns until we reach the cause, the origin of this aggression.
I believe that current institutions have been surprised by a type of crime associated with transnational gangs, extremely defiant and armed to the teeth. They have no qualms about killing police and using weapons of war in order to dominate their territories and expand.
But the Chilean police have the operational capacity to attack the most aggressive and organized outbreaks. In fact, it has been executing it and with the largest planned resources and the help of civil society, which in these cases are of great help, the most important nuclei that nest in our territory can be disrupted.
Launching a mockery against all migrants is not a very lucid policy, since out of 1000 migrants, there will be no more than 10 who come with the purpose of committing crimes. And it is on those 10 that the persecution exercise should fall, not on the remaining 990. Intensive treatment must be focused and supported by intelligence action. We can take on this challenge and it will leave us with enough experience to also combat our criminals who “steal a little” and those with collars and ties, who steal in very respectable amounts and are defended by highly skilled lawyers, which allows them to be convicted. to penalties as extreme as “ethics classes”, imprisonment sent to their estates or spas of choice.
We know that among our political fauna there are those who love to militarize the country. They worship Pinochet and pray for his return to install the promised Kingdom. These worshipers of the uniformed calf are running the siege from Region to Region, until total militarization is achieved.
It is known that this is not a solution, that Bukele’s action in El Salvador is not applicable in Chile, because Bukele’s action is a dictatorship (Parliament and the Courts of Justice were scrapped), and Chile has already experienced those calamities…and it is not known. resolved nothing, on the contrary…, since those times the long genesis of these evils in Chile and Latin America has been paid: poverty, extreme inequality, corruption of the economic and political elites, social anomie and cultural nihilism (everything is allowed ), that is, a society of abuse.
And violence, like poison, if not administered in moderation, ends up killing the patient.
