Crime, home burglary emergency in Salerno

Crimes reported in 2023 are substantially in line with those of 2022, but home and vehicle thefts increase. This is the photograph that emerges from the Police data on the crime situation in the province of Salernomade public yesterday on the occasion of the 172nd anniversary of the founding of the body.

The numbers

I am 34,183 crimes were reported in the Salerno area in 2023, 300 more than in 2022 and around 700 more than in 2021. While many types of crimes decrease, others increase. A decrease was recorded for robberies at homes (24 compared to 28 in 2022 and 35 in 2021) and at commercial establishments (43 compared to 58 two years earlier even if in 2022 there were 37), only one was that of banks or post office. There was also a decrease in cases of receiving stolen goods, 173 compared to 191 in 2022, substantially in line with those reported the previous year, extortion was 209, sexual violence decreased by 62 compared to 76 cases in 2021, and incidents of usury reported. There are 4,416 IT scams on the rise compared to the 4,147 reported in 2022, 500 less than in 2021 when the boom was closely linked to staying at home due to Covid.

The theft phenomenon

However, thefts increased, reaching 13,659, 600 more than those recorded in 2022. and over two thousand more than in 2021. Thefts are decreasing, 111 in 2023 compared to 145 two years earlier, those involving dexterity (752 last year) are increasing, however, those damaging vehicles 3,890 in 2023 (there were 3626 in 2022 and 2484 in 2021). Also worrying are residential burglaries which went from 1,430 in 2021 to 1,580 in 2022 and in 2023 stood at 1,837, while those in commercial establishments decreased to 662, compared to 711 in 2022. Last year, 292 people were arrested, others reported 1,095 controlled, 84,122 men and women, subjected to various obligations in 12,011 and 36,918 vehicles controlled.

Drug dealing

Seizures of narcotic substances follow their spread: over 4 kilos of cannabis, 885 grams of cocaine and 75 grams of heroin. As many as 16 weapons seized.

Cybercrime

Among other numbers, the postal police received 498 reports for online scams, 240 for computer scams, 318 for crimes against the person, 373 for prime computers and reported 12 people for online child pornography.
