Freiburg (dpa / lsw) – Two men convicted of group rape in Freiburg have to go to court because of an alleged further group rape. The two Syrians are said to have jointly raped a then 19-year-old woman together with a third, also Syrian defendant, in September 2017, as the regional court in Freiburg announced on Thursday. The scene of the crime was the Freiburg apartment of one of the defendants. The process should begin on March 11th. Eleven days of meetings are planned.
The two men, aged 24 and 25, who have already been convicted, have been in custody since October 2018 for gang rape in a bush in front of a Freiburg disco. Last July, they were sentenced to several years in prison for this. However, the judgments are not yet final, as the Federal Court of Justice has not yet ruled on the two men’s appeals. The third defendant has so far been at large, the court said.
In addition to rape, the men are accused of other crimes in the new trial. The 24-year-old has to answer for, among other things, dangerous bodily harm, an attempted sexual assault and an exhibitionistic act. The 25-year-old is said to have committed drug offenses.
The group rape on the Hans-Bunte-Areal in Freiburg in mid-October 2018 caused great horror. In the subsequent trial, eleven men were charged, all but one of the refugees – including eight Syrians, two men from Iraq and Algeria and one German without a migration background. The court found rape for a majority of the men – five defendants received prison sentences and two received youth sentences for taking turns raping the young woman.
