Crime – Freiburg im Breisgau – group rape: five judgments final – Panorama

Freiburg (dpa / lsw) – Two and a half years after the group rape of a young woman in Freiburg, the judgments against five of the eleven defendants are final. As the regional court in Freiburg announced, two defendants withdrew their appeal against the judgment. Two of the eleven defendants had accepted the verdict against them, and an appeal against the verdict was withdrawn before the written verdict was finalized. The Federal Court of Justice has not yet decided on the revisions of the other defendants. First the “Stuttgarter Zeitung” reported on Wednesday.

The indictment before the Freiburg Regional Court were eleven men who were between 18 and 30 years old at the time of the crime – all of them refugees except for one. These included eight Syrians, two men from Iraq and Algeria, and a German without a migration background.

The court found rape for a majority of the men – five defendants received a prison sentence and two received a youth sentence for taking turns raping the young woman in October 2018. Other young men involved have been convicted of failing to help. The main culprit lured the woman into the bushes near a disco in October 2018 and abused her. Later he reported to the other perpetrators that there was a girl and so, according to the judge, got things going.
