Freiburg (dpa) – Fraudsters have phoned citizens en masse in Freiburg and the surrounding area and pretended to be hospital doctors to rip off money. According to the police report on Thursday, they told those called that allegedly a relative was seriously ill with Covid-19. But there is a drug from Switzerland that has to be paid for privately. In the afternoon, an elderly woman in Maulburg fell for the trick: she gave a woman who rang her doorbell after an appointment with cash and jewelry worth around 7,500 euros.

The cheater is described as follows: about 30 years old and 165 centimeters tall, strong stature, round face, straight, dark, shoulder-length hair with bangs. The woman wore a light brown, waist-length jacket and spoke German without an accent.

The police warned that the scammers were “very active” during the day, but left no traces of the calls. A high number of unreported cases is to be expected.
