Freiburg (dpa / lsw) – A farmer is said to have moved a stream and thus endangered a stone crab species, among other things. The public prosecutor’s office has therefore accused the 62-year-old of violating the Federal Nature Conservation Act, intentional water pollution and intentional endangerment of areas in need of protection. The trial is scheduled for today (9:00 a.m.) at the Freiburg district court. According to the public prosecutor’s office, the accused has not yet admitted to the allegations.

According to the information, he is said to have built a diversion for the Kandelbächle flowing there in Glottertal (Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district) without permission on his property in 2020. To do this, he filled in the creek bed for around 20 meters. Despite requests from the authorities, the defendant did not restore the original condition. The prosecution explained that the property of the water body is said to have deteriorated as a result of the conversion.
