Freiburg (dpa / lsw) – The police in Freiburg convicted a suspected drug dealer with the help of decrypted chat histories. The man is suspected of having traded around 11 kilograms of cocaine mixture, 10 kilograms of heroin and 20 kilograms of marijuana in 2020 and 2021, the police said on Friday.

The group of people with whom the 37-year-old had communicated about the drugs probably felt quite safe with the crypto cell phones, said a police spokesman.

The cell phone had already been confiscated from the man in February 2021 in connection with a major investigation into drug dealers. When he was arrested on Tuesday, small amounts of narcotics and several thousand euros in cash were found on him.
