Freiburg (dpa / lsw) – According to the party, an AfD member was attacked on the sidelines of a demonstration on International Women’s Day in Freiburg. The victim was attacked by several people and injured in the head, said the AfD district association Freiburg on Friday. No serious injuries were found in the hospital. The Freiburg police said that on Monday evening a man was injured in the head in the area of Bismarckallee. He had previously attended a meeting of the “lateral thinking” movement. A suspect was initially not arrested. However, a witness was found, the investigation was ongoing.
AfD district spokesman Tilman Mehler accused the “self-appointed anti-fascists” of the act and called for a consistent fight against left-wing extremism. In the southwest, there had recently been several attacks in the area of election campaigns by the AfD: In Lörrach last Saturday, three police officers were attacked and slightly injured at a spontaneous meeting against an election campaign stand of the AfD. At the end of February, a group of 15 to 20 people attacked an AfD stand on the market square in Schorndorf (Rems-Murr-Kreis). The attackers tore the 36-year-old candidate for the Schorndorf constituency, Stephan Schwarz, to the ground and beat him.
