Since the end of April, customs investigators in Hamburg have executed 16 search warrants for drugs sent by post. A total of almost 30 kilograms of marijuana, more than 150 cannabis seedlings, small amounts of cocaine, almost 200 ecstasy tablets and 3,800 untaxed cigarettes were seized, as the customs investigation office announced on Thursday.
13 suspects are suspected of ordering narcotics and having received them by parcel post. According to customs investigators, the narcotics were worth more than 300,000 euros on the black market.
The illegal shipments were secured, among other things, during routine checks by forces from the main customs offices in Frankfurt am Main, Cologne and Koblenz. There is a suspicion that the drug should be resold. Investigators also found suspected deal money and counterfeit money.
“We are noticing a trend towards online trading in illegal transactions,” said the spokesman for the Hamburg customs investigation office, Stephan Meyns. “Customs also take a very close look at the processing of the subsequent parcel shipment.” In a procedure, 75,000 euros in cash, jewelry and 17 pairs of expensive sports shoes were secured from the accused. “We want to track down the profits from illegal business and take them out of circulation.”
