VERACRUZ.- More than a hundred migrants were rescued by elements of the National Guard on the Nuevo Teapa-Cosoleacaque highway, near Coatzacoalcos, in the south of the state of Veracruz.
There were 128 migrants who traveled in the box of a trailer in overcrowded conditions and some even with signs of dehydration.
The white vehicle with 48LM6C plates is under the protection of the authorities after it was stopped and routinely searched by elements of the National Guard who were in the toll booth.
According to what was reported by the National Migration Institute, shouts and blows were heard inside the box, which caused the review of the National Guard elements to be more exhaustive.
The people found lacked documents proving their legal stay in Mexico, so they were transferred to an immigration containment point.
“At the Coatzacoalcos-Nuevo Teapa Review Point, #Veracruz, they identified 128 foreigners who were staying irregularly in and were transported in a truck,” the immigration authorities said.
The state of Veracruz is a main point in Mexico for the crossing of migrants through the country and on multiple occasions the risks they suffer as a result of the presence of organized crime in the state have been pointed out. In Veracruz there have been kidnappings of migrants, as well as robberies, assaults and even accidents that cost them their lives.
