Crew Dragon capsule SpaceX successfully couples to international space station – IT Pro – News

SpaceX has managed to dock its Crew Dragon capsule at the International Space Station. On Sunday afternoon, the capsule was linked to the ISS, after a flight that lasted approximately 19 hours. It is the first time that SpaceX uses its Crew Dragon.

The successful link to the International Space Station is another milestone for SpaceX after it first astronauts Saturday night launched with the Crew Dragon on a Falcon 9 missile. The intention was to deliver the two astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley to the ISS, and that succeeded just after a quarter past four on Sunday afternoon Dutch time.

When asked, the astronauts announced from the capsule that their flight, which had lasted nearly nineteen hours, had gone well. The journey was mainly on autopilot, although manual steering was also tested for a short time. In addition, the astronauts said that the experience was comparable to the simulation.

With the successful delivery of the astronauts, SpaceX has made history. It is the first astronaut launch from US soil since 2011, when the last Space Shuttle was launched into space. Since then, NASA has relied on Russian Soyuz rockets and capsules to fly to the International Space Station.

It is also the first time that a commercial company has used an astronaut capsule for a space flight. The successful launch is a boost for the partnership between SpaceX and NASA; Crew Dragon is expected to be used more frequently in the future.
