Crew-3 mission flight to International Space Station with second postponement

The problem “is not a medical emergency and is not related to covid-19,” NASA said in a statement, without giving further details.

American astronauts Raja Chari, Kayla Barron and Tom Marshburn, as well as German astronaut Matthias Maurer, will remain in quarantine at Kennedy Space Center, the agency added.

Initially they were scheduled to take off early on Sunday morning, but due to bad weather the flight was postponed to Wednesday.

The launch is now scheduled for Saturday at 23:36 local time (3:36 GMT Sunday) from Cape Canaveral, Florida.

NASA did not specify which of the astronauts was affected by the health problem.

This mission, dubbed Crew-3, is the third regular manned mission provided by SpaceX, the private company of tycoon Elon Musk, through the US Special Agency.

Astronauts are expected to spend about six months in orbit and conduct several experiments aboard the space station.

They will replace the four Crew-2 astronauts, including Frenchman Thomas Pesquet, who has been on the Space Station since April.

The Crew-2 mission’s return to Earth is scheduled for “early November”, but NASA explained today that it will “continue to assess possible dates” and does not exclude an “indirect transfer” rather than a direct transfer between the two crews.
