This is confirmed by the man’s defender Giannis Parasyris to Dagbladet.
In January 2021, the Norwegian was arrested for the murder of his cohabitant, a woman in her 50s, in a village outside Chania in Crete. He has since been remanded in custody on the Greek island.
– The trial was today, and he received the most severe punishment of the law, Parasyris says.
According to the Greek newspaper Haniotika-nea, the Norwegian is in his 40s.
He has admitted to having killed his cohabitant, the defender states.
Will appeal
The Norwegian was not present in court on Friday.
According to the defense counsel, the verdict will be appealed, and the appeal will probably come up in court in a year’s time.
The defender tells Dagbladet that he believes that the Norwegian will receive a milder sentence in the second round of court.
14 stab wounds
It was Sunday 17 January last year that the woman in her 50s was found dead in the home she shared with the Norwegian outside Chania.
The murder is said to have taken place sometime between 13 and 14 January.
The Norwegian was wanted, and a few days later was arrested by the police in the city of Heraklion. He was later charged with premeditated murder and unlawful use of a weapon.
The forensic doctor who performed the autopsy of the deceased woman has previously told Dagbladet that the woman died as a result of blood loss from 14 stab wounds.
In January last year, Estonian police informed Dagbladet that the Norwegian in 2018 was wanted for embezzlement and data fraud in Estonia.
