On Wednesday 27/3/2024 I visited the hospital of RETHYMNO. There is no oncologist. Chemotherapy patients from Rethymnon are forced to go to HERACLEION. Great inconvenience and expense. Two pathologists serve. In the TEP, the pediatrician examines the pathological cases. Only two pathologists serve. There is 1 doctor in TEP. Also they only have 2 orthopedists, 2 psychiatrists.
On Thursday 28/3/2024 I visited hospitals in the prefecture of Lasithi and we participated in the large rally organized in AGIOS NIKOLAOS for the salvation of public health and welfare. Massive participation of the employees and residents of the prefecture. I visited hospitals. The situation is tragic in terms of staffing.
SITEIA HOSPITAL. 1 anesthesiologist, 1 pathologist, 2 cardiologists, 3 surgeons, 1 pediatrician, 1 radiologist who is leaving with a transfer.
NAPLES HOSPITAL. 1 internist who is also on call at the hospital
AGIOSNIKOLAOS, 1 paediatrician, 1 orthopedist who are also on duty in Agios Nikolaos, no radiology doctor, only one assistant in the pharmacy, two doctors in microbiology, 1 security guard. Also serious shortages in administrative, nursing, auxiliary staff and cleaning staff.
IERAPETRA HOSPITAL. 1 anesthesiologist, 1 pathologist, 1 cardiologist. The hospital is covered half days a month by a pathologist, cardiologist.
AGIOS NIKOLAOS HOSPITAL. 2 Anesthesiologists, 3 surgeons, 3 nephrologists serving the patients of the closed private unit, 2 radiologists one is leaving, pathology clinic covering all the law.
AGIOS NIKOLAOS WELFARE UNIT. Serious staff shortages in which 80 people with disabilities are accommodated. Risk of admissions of people with psychiatric problems by prosecutor’s order.
Major shortages in nursing and other staff in all the hospitals of Crete. Proclamations become barren. They have resignations all the time. The recipe for coverage is wage growth, incentives.
