Cremation of student Abhirami, who committed suicide after the Kerala bank foreclosure notice was issued today. The Department of Cooperation said action would be taken if officials did things contrary to government policy. Several youth organizations will protest Abhirami’s death today.
The death of Abhirami, the only daughter of Aji and Shalini, at Aji Bhawan in South Suranad has left the nation in mourning. In September 2019, Ajikumar took a loan of Rs 10 lakh from Kerala Bank to build a house. Then the repayment of the loan stopped during Kovid. Later, Abhirami’s mother had an accident and the family’s financial situation was upset. Later, Abhirami and her parents learned that the banking authorities had placed a foreclosure notice on the house yesterday as they attended a relative’s death ceremony in Chengannur. Abhirami and her family reached the bank and tried to meet the officials but failed. After Aji and Shalini went to meet with bank officials after Abhirami was taken home, Abhirami hanged herself in her room. At that moment in her house there were only Abhirami and her grandmother Shantamma. Hearing her grandmother’s screams, those who rushed to the hospital took her to Shastamkota taluka hospital, but she died. Aji and Shalini learn of Abhirami’s suicide while talking to the bank manager. Her body will be cremated today after the autopsy. Several youth organizations today called for protests over Abhirami’s death.
