At the DSD, Jonathan Ehling took a seven-meter penalty and Anton Boomes took a penalty corner for the 13th win in a row. Corner specialist Timo Kossol suffered a torn muscle fiber and was therefore out for the following day.
The expected fast-paced and heated game developed in Mönchengladbach, which was characterized by technical highlights, good goalkeeper saves and intensive duels. The first chances in the form of three penalty corners belonged to the hosts, but they didn’t use them. Above all, the South African brothers Dayaan and Mustaphaa Cassiem repeatedly presented the CHTC defense with problems, but the team around Captain Linus Michler was able to solve this with their whole class. On the other side, Lucas Bachmann converted a penalty corner with a half-high flick and set the course for victory early on (11′). As a result, the numerous spectators increasingly saw circular scenes on both sides. The big chances didn’t materialize, however, or were brilliantly defused by Krefeld goalkeeper Adrian Haug and Patrick Alex in the Gladbach box. With warm temperatures, the mood on the pitch became increasingly heated due to physical activities, but with the exception of one scene shortly before the end of the game, it remained sporty.

“Today we kept the zero at the back, Adrian made a sensational parry shortly before the end,” said CHTC captain Linus Michler happily. “Gladbach posed a high goal threat, mainly because of the international players, but we also missed a few chances. In the end it doesn’t matter, the resurgence is perfect.”

His mother and team manager Perdita Michler added: “Now everyone is going to the clubhouse, where we will celebrate extensively. There will be pizza and plenty of drinks. The promotion is fully deserved, we are very happy.”

Coach Ronan Gormley also had words of praise for his team after the involuntary shower: “They were intense games against good opponents. But the boys knew that something big was at stake and invested everything, worked really hard and deservedly celebrated two wins without conceding a goal. Everyone is also well prepared for the aftermath in the club.”

For the CHTC, after the unfortunate relegation last year, it is a direct route back to the top German league as planned. Throughout the season, the team impressively demonstrated their individual, tactical and playful class, which Gladbach’s coach Jan Klatt also acknowledges without envy: “The Krefeld team deserved the promotion. They played a very high-quality squad across the board and had a strong season. Of course we would have liked to annoy them today, but unfortunately that didn’t work out, even though we were on an equal footing for a long time.”
