Credit Suisse: Tidjane Thiam’s little golden parachute

The now ex CEO of Credit Suisse leaves with a golden parachute of 30 million dollars (18.2 billion CFA francs). This is a balance of any account including salaries, bonuses and stock options. Too expensive to pay?

As a reminder, another Ivorian, Thierry Tanoh in this case, had received $ 15 million as damages when he left Ecobank in 2015. Tidjane Thiam would have received twice and more amicably than his counterpart, justifying the proverb that a bad arrangement is better than a good trial.

The Franco-Ivorian will have stayed at the head of the second Swiss bank for five years before being caught up in the tapping and spinning scandal revealed last fall.

The package would make Thiam, who received an average of about 10 million francs a year (6 billion CFA francs) from the bank over the three years until 2018, one of the highest paid bank bosses in Europe.
