Madrid, Nov 24 (EFECOM).- The delinquency of loans granted by Spanish banks remained at 3.56% in September, thanks to the fact that the increase in unpaid loans was minimal, according to data published this Friday by the Bank of Spain.
Non-performing loans increased by 20 million in September, to 42,081 million, and this time the credit portfolio grew to 1,183 billion euros, above the 1,182 billion in July, which contributed to maintaining delinquencies.
Compared to September 2022, credit delinquency went from 3.79% then to 3.56% in the same month of 2023 and the balance of doubtful assets decreased by more than 4.2 billion.
In addition to the total data for the sector, the Bank of Spain publishes each month the aggregate delinquency of banks, savings banks and cooperatives (rural savings banks), on the one hand, and, on the other, that of consumer finance companies.
The default rate of banks, savings banks and cooperatives went from 3.45% in August to 3.44%, after the balance of unpaid debts was reduced by 119 million, to 38,954 million.
In the case of consumer finance companies, the delinquency ratio rose to 6.74%, from 6.47% in August, with a doubtful volume of 2,948 million, 138 million more than the previous month, and a credit portfolio which increased to 43,769 million. EFECOM
