The creator of the Japanese comic series Yu-Gi-Oh!, which spawned a popular card game and television series at the beginning of this century, has passed away. The body of 60-year-old Kazuki Takahashi was found at sea near Nago, on the southern island of Okinawa, Japanese broadcaster NHK reports.

Takahashi was wearing snorkel gear when he was found yesterday. His body was identified today. Authorities are still investigating his death.

Card game and cartoon series very popular

sleeve Yu-Gi-Oh! – a kind of comic or graphic novel – came out in 1996 and was published regularly until 2004. The story revolves around the main character Yugi, who can summon monsters with the help of his card game and thus duel with opponents.

The manga soon spawned an anime, a Japanese cartoon series. It was made between 2000 and 2004. To this day, there are still Yu-Gi-Oh! made games.

Of course, the card game was also released in real life. This had its heyday at the beginning of this century, also in the Netherlands. Where Pokémon cards were more commonly bought to collect or trade, people used the cards out Yu-Gi-Oh! rather to play and duel with each other.
