Creating a Functioning Parliament and Government: DB Co-Chairman Atanasov Discusses Political Crisis and Priorities

We need a functioning parliament. We have become the state of expired mandates – there are 20-odd bodies whose compositions must be replaced in order to be active. After more than two years of dragging the parliamentary republic, there is a chance to end the political crisisto create a working government.

This was stated by the co-chairman of DB Atanas Atanasov in “Panorama” on BNT.

Atanasov did not comment on which of the two largest political forces in the parliament has made more compromises.

“Our coalition stated even before the elections that it would do everything that depends on us to create a government with our mandate, and this is on its way to being realized. You see the composition of the government, the majority are experts, and the political persons are from our PP partners”.

He also comments on other current topics.

PP/DB have not decided how to vote for Boyko’s immunity Borisov, requested earlier today by Ivan Geshev. However, Atanasov does not believe that Borissov will bet the government against his own immunity.

“The question is why right now, after the case dragged on for three or four years, when Borisov did not have immunity and the topic is being raised now, when a government should be formed with the support of his political power. I am convinced that this is part of a a plan to fail to form a government that has many elements,” he commented.

“One of our main priorities is the constitutional reform. Today, at the first meeting I was not present, it was proposed to seek the constitutional majority, if such a request as was made by the two rotating prime ministers is going to be made,” Atanasov answered when asked if they deserved are the negotiations for constitutional reform with DPS and Delyan Peevski.

According to him, in the most expeditious manner the bills should be introduced from the front parliament to change the management of the Bulgarian services, because according to the Constitution, the Council of Ministers is responsible for security and public order in the country.

“Not Mr. President, whoever he is, should appoint the heads of the services. And I have already said it once and I will repeat it – I think that the head of DANS, with this performance that was played out with the open meeting in the National Assembly, is alone cut off the head because he took a political position, which is unacceptable”.
