Create your comet at the Fête de la science in Marseille

The thirtieth edition of the Fête de la science is taking place this weekend all over France. Many experience and popularization workshops are offered in Marseille by different organizations. The Marseille Astrophysics Laboratory shows, for example, how to create your own comet.

Science is coming out of the labs this weekend. The Fête de la science takes place all over France. In Marseille, several organizations exhibit and offer workshops at the Espace Villeneuve-Bargemon, behind the Town Hall. They animate many fun experiences for young and old. “It gives ideas of what we can do at home, but also paths that can be considered later”, underlines Agathe Mattei, regional coordinator of the Fête de la Science.

However, there is one experience that can hardly be reproduced at home: creating your own comet. This is the demonstration offered by the Marseille Astrophysics Laboratory. It is necessary to mix, among other things, dry ice (very cold), sulfur, ammonia and water. It all clumps together and forms a mini-comet.

Practical information

The Fête de la science continues this Sunday in several places in Marseille, notably at the Espace Villeneuve-Bargemon. The detailed program is on the website of the Ministry of Higher Studies, Research and Innovation.
